Data from students, the AMU Student Quality Council (SQC) and American Meridian University Alumni Association (AMUAA) indicate that many AMU students and alumni envision an interest in full or part-time teaching. As a University, AMU supports this vision and career path by providing opportunities and guidance for students to receive training, practice and supervision in teaching. AMU offers its programs primarily to adults who continue to work while they complete degrees. AMU offers its programs primarily at a distance. Consequently, this course provides the main competency of teaching adults virtually.

Through experience of senior leadership dating back over four (4) decades, of teaching adults at a distance both nationally and internationally, AMU has developed an original model for testing effectiveness of its teaching method. As part of the curricula for this course, AMU employs the model to test learning before and after AMU students participate in this course. Students must teach under at AMU under the supervision of a senior faculty in order that faculty might assess that students have acquired or refined the requisite knowledge, skills, and competencies.

Course Format
This course is delivered in a series of online modules complemented by off-line review and assistance. In person, on-site sessions are offered where possible.

Course Goals
Deliver a structural framework which allows students the opportunity to refine knowledge, skills and competencies acquired or refined to teach adults virtually.

Course Objectives

  • Teach the skill set required to teach adults virtually.
  • Explain the AMU model used to assess student learning.
  • Demonstrate effective organization of teaching materials.
