Advanced Benchmarking and Benchmarking Tools in a Virtual Age
This course builds core competency in primary and secondary benchmarking in education systems. The course then employs knowledge gained from benchmarking and the utilization of the define-measure-analyze-improve-control (DMAIC) model to support quality improvement in processes. The course builds practical knowledge and understanding of how data collected through benchmarking may if applied to increase productivity and change. The course also extends knowledge of the development and history of benchmarking by comparing classic essays such as the House of Quality and contemporary benchmarking examples. Quality-based tools such as the radar chart illustrate the use of benchmarking for competitive advantage. The skills and vocabulary are taught through examples which are relevant to the students’ experience. Examples are drawn from internet marketing to underscore the point that healthcare organizations are using benchmarking to compete for attributes which customers prize, such as most veterans retained and most on-time program graduates.
Advanced benchmarking is required in the doctoral project. Dissertation projects must show that the performance metrics by which the projects are assessed are relevant to the performance metrics and are drawn from such fundamental tools as the customer requirements matrix (CRM).
This course focuses on the virtual environment to reflect the internet-era awareness of tools by which contemporary benchmarking is mainly accomplished.
This course is delivered in on-line modules complemented by off-line review and assistance. On-site, in person sessions are offered when possible.
