This course provides the core competency to utilize the principles and best practices of quality systems management to achieve substantive and sustained organizational process improvements in education. The course also provides a series of “frames” or fundamental best practices that may be used to determine measures of quality, calculate waste and unnecessary cost, and ensure continuous improvement. The aim of this course is to help doctoral students prepare the foundation to build an original model by which quality systems management as applied to education may achieve an innovative result.

This course also imparts the knowledge and teaches the skill to transform a dissertation theory into practice to create an original model via the dissertation project. Relevant skills enhanced by the course are project management, writing of dissertation proposals, formation of research and study teams, formation of performance objectives, customer requirements matrix, force field analysis, and understanding of the role research. Model points are elaborated upon in required, future DBA courses.

Course Format
This course is delivered in a series of online modules complemented by off-line review and assistance. In-person, on-site modules are offered in addition when possible.

  • Teach how the elements of the define-measure-analyze-improve-control (DMAIC) quality system comprise a systemic approach to process improvement
  • Explain and demonstrate the skilled calculation of return on investment (ROI) from process improvements
  • Discuss systematic applications of quality-based applications in a project which integrates a comprehensive set of quality system principles, best practices, tools and vocabulary
